Hüsk, Bridging Lanka, and Little Leaders Foundation have united forces to build a preschool, Little Trees Nurtury, in Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. The preschool will nurture a fresh approach to early childhood education with the love of learning, deep environmental connection, and a care for their community. The school will also function as a leading pillar of society that Mannar Island so desperately needs.
why mannar island?
Home to just 73,000 people, Mannar Island is culturally very diverse with Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists all living on the Island. Sadly since the civil war, Mannar Island has suffered greatly. There are social and ethnic divisions, generational trauma, a high suicide rate, growing drug addiction amongst young people, and great poverty.
The children of Mannar are exposed to the ills of society very early. To unite the people and have a positive impact on the future generations, we believe change must start at the foundation – with the children.

A preschool is a crucial part of any society and in shaping a human’s future, as children are exposed to learning about themselves and the world around them for the first time. Nurturing the young children of the world is where we can have the biggest impact.
Our project encompasses training people in the local community to become teachers and create new job opportunities. We will offer educational programs and pedagogic parent counselling on Mannar Island. Little Trees Nurtury will be utilised as a centre for the local community to unite and better their society.
This is an end-to-end project from the grassroots. We are planting the seeds, and through a healthy community, Little Trees will grow. No community can rise without a solid foundation.
contribute to little trees
We are raising US$ 150.000 to build Little Trees Nurtury and finance its first year of operation. For the following years we have created a forward budget to cover annual costs. Bridging Lanka has already acquired 1 1/2 acres of village forest land.
The school’s building will cater initially for 50 children equipped with a playground, nature trails, and an organic vegetable farm, all amidst a forest setting.
Donate now and have a lifelong impact on the children of Mannar. All funds donated go 100% toward the construction and operation of Little Trees, Mannar and are tax deductible.

a holistic education
Holistic education is an approach that cares for the emotional, social, ethical, spiritual, and intellectual needs of a child. Children are taught how their own actions have an effect on themselves, the local and global community, and how they can learn from the people around them. Holistic education is about encouraging a child to be mindful, think critically, and be compassionate from the very start of their lives.
At Little Trees we want to nurture children with an holistic approach. The children will have a truly unique learning experience surrounded by nature and animals, including Mannar’s donkeys, at Bridging Lanka’s Donkey Clinic and Rescue Centre, just a stone’s throw away from Little Trees in Mannar.
